The first ever Scot Fitzgerald 5K is set to take place today in South Jacksonville.

According to a report by WICS Newschannel 20, the run is to benefit the family of Officer Fitzgerald, who lost his life in the line of duty earlier this year.

Dani Fitzgerald, the widow of Officer Fitzgerald, spoke to Newschannel 20 and expressed gratitude for all the support her family has received.

“They’ve done so much to help me, help the kids and help each. It’s a very good community,” says Fitzgerald.

All proceeds will go to the Fitzgerald family, and for the inaugural run, money will go towards flying the family to Washington D.C. to see Scot’s name put on the National Law Enforcement Memorial. Participants can begin signing up at 6:30 pm at First Christian Church and the run is scheduled to start at 8 pm at the South Jacksonville Fire Department.
