South Jacksonville officials are revealing the name of the employee who was suspended earlier this month.

Responding to a Freedom of Information Act request by WLDS-WEAI News, officials indicate building inspector Dick Samples was suspended without pay for a two-and-a-half-day period on Friday, August 22nd.

The suspension was served in half-day periods beginning on Monday of this week and ending today.

South Jacksonville office manager and FOIA officer Linda Douglass says Samples was disciplined for violating the village’s personnel policy manual.

Records relating to the adjudication of the disciplinary case for Samples were not provided, nor were records containing communications from legal counsel regarding the Samples case.

When asked earlier this month when the village board of trustees voted to authorize him to suspend a then-unnamed employee without pay, village president Gordon Jumper wouldn’t say if the decision had anything to do with an ongoing state police investigation into allegations of document destruction in the village office.

A phone call to Samples was not returned this morning.
