Soybean planting nearing completion in Illinois

Crop statistician Mark Schleusener has more.

“The Illinois soybean crop is 96 percent planted and 88 percent emerged, very close to normal progress. One percent of soybean acres are now blooming, right on the five year average. The condition of the crop is rated five percent very poor to poor, 20 percent fair and 75 percent good to excellent,” says Schleusener.

Ninety-eight percent of the soybean crop is planted in the West Southwest District. Ninety-one percent of local soybeans have emerged.

Seventy-five percent of the corn crop is rated good to excellent.

The state averaged six days suitable for fieldwork, similar to the local district.

Topsoil in the West Southwest District was 12 percent very short, 32 percent short, 55 percent adequate and one-percent surplus. Subsoil was eight-percent very short, 26 percent short, 65 percent adequate and one-percent surplus.

As for precipitation, the state averaged 0.84 inches for the week, almost double the amount that fell locally.

Temperatures were warmer for the week in Illinois. The state averaged a temp of 77 degrees, more than four degrees hotter than normal.
