A familiar name in west central Illinois politics is seeking re-election in 2018.
Local State Representative C.D. Davidsmeyer is announcing that he is seeking re-election for the Illinois’ 100th House District.
Davidsmeyer has represented the 100th House District since December 2012 and has been re-elected twice. Davidsmeyer discusses some of the reasons why he’s decided to seek re-election.
“There’s been a lot of turnover in the past four years since I’ve been in, and there’s been a lot of announcements of people not running for election. It’s a very tough time in government in general, specifically in the state of Illinois, and I think we need somebody that’s going to stay there and fight and say, ‘we can’t keep promising more and more spending,’ and that’s what I’ve done over the last four years,” says Davidsmeyer.
It’s been a rather busy year with Illinois’ prolonged budget stalemate coming to an end this summer, and more recently the passing of a new school funding formula. Representative Davidsmeyer talks about where he stands on state spending.
“I’ve never voted to increase spending. I think we need somebody there who’s going to say ‘enough is enough.’ Let’s set some priorities, let’s move forward, but we can’t keep expanding programs, we can’t keep making new programs, we have to see if we can actually do something well. We’re so spread out that we’re not focusing on what we do well, so we need to find that and move forward,” Davidsmeyer says.
Davidsmeyer will be running on a pro-life, pro-family values platform, as well as showing strong support of second amendment rights.
As for what he hopes to achieve if re-elected, Davidsmeyer says there are a few big issues he is focusing on.
“We have to be focused on changing who runs the House and Senate, the General Assembly. We have to work towards putting people in there who want to makes changes for the state of Illinois, that don’t want to continue the status quo, and that’s what I’ve been fighting for the last four years and will continue to do that. I think there’s a lot of people who get into office and want to stay forever because they like the title and want to be important, that’s not me. I want to actually accomplish something, I want to make progress, and it may not be success overnight, but we can make baby steps towards making this state better.” Davidsmeyer explains.
The primaries will take place in March of 2018, followed by the election in November of next year.
