Ameren Illinois is providing energy efficiency tips for college students heading back to school.
During Monday’s edition of WLDS’ “What’s On Your Mind?”, spokesman Brian Bretsch advised turning off unnecessary lighting, shutting down gaming equipment and televisions and keeping a close eye on the thermostat as a way to save cash.
Among other tips, Bretsch explained the simple application process that many Illinois College, MacMurray College and Lincoln Land Community College students will go through.
“Now is an excellent time to consider going to amerenillinois.com, especially if you son or daughter is living off campus. Go online and set up a utility account in that student’s name. It is pretty easy. You set up a user ID and pick a password. You will receive an email. Inside that you can select the option of starting the new service.”
“All we need is one name. So if your son or daughter is living with three or four other people, we don’t need three or four other accounts. We recommend signing up for the paperless billing, which comes once a month. You will receive an email that says what is due and how much you used,” says Bretsch.
Anyone signing up must have proof of their social security card, driver’s license and the address you will be living at.
