Tourism numbers bump up locally

Morgan County saw a slight bump in tourism last year, according to recently-released numbers.

Travel expenditures topped $44.79 million in the county for 2013, up 0.8 percent from the previous year.

According to state figures listed in a press release from the Jacksonville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, Morgan County travel spending generated $870,000 in local tax revenue and helped support 280 jobs.

The state is seeing a third consecutive year of record numbers, hosting about 105.7 million visitors in 2013, up four-and-a-half percent from 2012.
