Three people were taken to a Springfield hospital after a two-vehicle crash near Ashland last night.

Reports from the Illinois State Police indicate it happened on Route 125 just west of West Fremont Street.

A vehicle being driven westbound by 59-year-old Sarah Mefford of Virginia apparently attempted to pass another vehicle when she struck a car head-on in the eastbound lane.

The driver of that unit, 18-year-old Cole Metcalf of Macomb, as well as his passenger, 18-year-old Ginger Wilcoxen of Springfield, were taken to Memorial Medical Center. Mefford was also transported.

Mefford and Wilcoxen are both listed in serious condition at the hospital, while Metcalf is said to be in good condition.

State Police say charges are pending.
