Icy conditions resulted in several accidents in Morgan County yesterday evening.
The most serious accident occurred on Interstate 72 just west of the Route 67 interchange at about 8:00. Morgan County Deputies say a vehicle driven by 25-year-old Nivedita Kumari of Overland Park was traveling westbound when it drove off the north side of the roadway and into two trees.
Kumari and her passenger, 33-year-old Santosh Ranjan of Overland Park were taken to Passavant Area Hospital with serious injuries, according to reports from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.
Kumari and Ranjan were transferred to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. They are still receiving treatment in the emergency department.
Another accident on Interstate 72 near the Jacksonville exit injured 19-year-old Brittany Latham of Allerton. Deputies say her vehicle went off the north side of the roadway and struck a support post for a large road sign.
Latham was taken to Passavant Area Hospital where she’s been treated and released.
In all, seven accidents were reported in Morgan County. There were eight more reported within city limits of Jacksonville. None of those resulted in injuries.
