Two division one college signings led the way for eight Jacksonville High School athletes who signed letters of intent to play sports in college yesterday afternoon.
The two division signees were both soccer players, Mark Wilson from the boys, and Claire Cody for the girls. Wilson has signed a letter of intent to go to Bradley, and Cody to Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.
Wilson was a defensive midfielder with JHS last fall, and a captain of the team. He scored 13 goals and had two assists from his defensive position in his career at JHS.
Claire Cody follows her sister’s footsteps into the college ranks. Bailey Cody played at Lindenwood College. Claire Cody is sixth on the all-time list in scoring at JHS with 60 goals, and has 28 assists.
Joe Brannan is headed to the Division Two football national champions, Northwest Missouri State. The quarterback threw for over 5-thousand yards for JHS and 33 touchdowns.
Brannan is joined at the college level by three teammates yesterday. Linebacker Braxton Criss is headed to Saint Ambrose University, an NAIA school. Wide receiver Noah Pickens is staying local at Illinois College, and running back Matt Rooney is headed to MacMurray College.
Two other girls’ players are headed to Hannibal LaGrange University, an NAIA school. They are goalkeeper Madi Allen, and Sarah James. James, Allen and Cody will play this spring for the JHS soccer program.
