Under a first year head coach and a 22-win season, MacMurray College’s baseball program is postseason bound.

With four straight wins to close out the regular season, the Highlanders punched their ticket to the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament for the first time since 1999

Students, parents, faculty and fans showed up this morning at MacMurray College to wish the players good luck in the conference tournament.

Head coach Austin Brough had high expectations coming into this season and is proud of the accomplishment his players and coaches have achieved.

“I think we have a really good group of guys. The last two years coach Fuller and I have done a good job of putting together the right core group. The new coaches have done a good job of preparing them. They have worked really hard, it is all on them now and they deserve 100-percent of the credit,” says Brough.

Ten Benedictine University student athletes transferred to the MacMurray roster at the start of the season. Brough says the entire team has gelled together at the perfect time.

“We had four games we needed to win and we won all four. The guys came out and played when we needed them to. I think they are believing in the system we’ve got here. This is the time for that to happen,” says Brough.

The SLIAC tournament takes place in Greenville. MacMurray plays Westminster at 2 p.m. and, if victorious, will play the winner of Webster and Greenville.
