8 Points Charter will not appeal for contract renewal

An appeal will not be made by 8 Points Charter to continue fighting for contract renewal.

The charter school was a major focus of District 117 meetings over the winter months in 2015.

Board members originally rejected 8 Point’s proposal for contract renewal in October, but after a strong push from the school and community, District 117 officials allowed the charter school to present their case for renewal during the December board meeting.

Much like the October meeting, board members voted in favor of ending ties with 8 Points Charter.

After that decision by the board, 8 Points Charter representatives were given 30 days to appeal the board’s vote to the ISB and State Charter Commission.

WLDS/WEAI News spoke with 8 Points School Board President Larry Meece, who confirmed the charter school will not be filing an appeal.

We tried reaching out to 8 Points Principal Bridget English multiple times, but did not receive a call back.

The charter’s contract will end at the conclusion of the 2015-2016 school year.
