For one Jacksonville alderman, Monday’s City Council meeting was the last one.
Ward 5 Alderman Bruce McDaniel was given a farewell gift by acting Mayor Tony Williams after McDaniel read a statement to other council members thanking them for working with him.
McDaniel served the council for one four-year term and failed in his re-election bid. He’s replaced by Travis Richardson, who was one of two new aldermen sworn in following Monday’s meeting.
McDaniel offered his thoughts to us after the meeting’s conclusion.
“I enjoyed my four years with the council. We got a lot done, accomplished in four years. I’d like to stay another four years, but it wasn’t meant to be, it’s time to turn the page,” says McDaniel. He had no comment on whether he’d run in the future.
Ben Tomhave was the other new aldermen sworn in. Tomhave had previously been formally introduced, but Monday’s action means he’ll serve the rest of term of former Ward 4 alderwoman Jenny Geirnaeirt, with a length of about two years.
Mayor Andy Ezard was not present Monday due to an illness, according to the city attorney.
