Ameren Illinois is providing customers with tips the prevent scams over the holiday season.
In a press release, Ameren warns customers to be alert for phone calls from scam artists threatening to disconnect utility services unless a payment is immediately made.
Ameren advises customers to never give out your credit card, debit card or financial information for immediate payment over the phone or to someone who comes to your home.
You should never let anyone into your home who claims to be from the utility company, unless they show proper identification.
Ameren will never send emails that include attachments, unless you have already made that request.
If you suspect someone is impersonating an Ameren employee on the phone, hang up and call 1-800-755-5000.
