Ameren customers in West Central Illinois could be looking at a rate decrease.

A press release from the utility company says it’s filing a plan with the Illinois Commerce Commission to request about a $14-million decrease in delivery service rates for 2017.

Ameren says it’s the fourth rate decrease since Ameren began installing smart grid technology in 2011.

It’s not known exactly how much the decrease would affect the bills of each individual customers. According to Ameren, the ICC will have eight months to review and make a determination on the request.

Ameren Illinois adds that its gas customers will be saving on the supply portion of their utility bill starting this month with a nearly four-cent drop in per-therm cost of natural gas. That’s expected to save about $28 annually per customer.
