A Congressional App Challenge is testing high school students throughout the 13th Congressional District.

The competition allows students to create a software application for mobile, tablet or computer devices.

West Central Illinois Congressman Rodney Davis says the initiative encourages engagement in coding and other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) related fields.

The submission period runs through January 15, 2016 and will be judged by a panel of local judges who work in academic and software fields.

The winner will be on display at the U.S. Capitol building.

Students are allowed to compete as individuals or teams up to four.
