One man is dead after a pedestrian-versus-vehicle accident in Jacksonville on Sunday morning.

According to the Jacksonville Police Department, it happened at the intersection of South Church and West College shortly after 8:30 a.m.

An 85-year-old man later identified by the Morgan County Coroner as Homer Keltner had been crossing South Church just north of the intersection when he was struck by a vehicle driven by 73-year-old Gloria Lyles of the 600 block of North Fayette.

Keltner had been walking eastbound, while the vehicle was traveling northbound when the collision occurred, according to police. Morgan County Coroner Jeff Lair says Keltner suffered severe head trauma.

Keltner was pronounced dead at 10:37 a.m. after being transported to Passavant Area Hospital by EMS.

Lyles was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

Police are still investigating the crash.

Keltner was the owner of Keltner’s Barber Shop at 205 West State Street.
