The new year continues to unfold and so does the need for area nonprofits. Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Central Illinois is set to host a “Pack the House” fund raiser this Thursday, February 15th,  at Buffalo Wild Wings and Los Rancheros. Program Director Andrea Murray says it’s a great way to help a local organization.

“So between the hours of 5-8pm you can take your family out to eat and the restaurants will donate a percentage of the proceeds to the mentoring program in Morgan County. For Los Rancheros you simply have to mention Big Brothers Big Sisters and for Buffalo Wild Wings you need to bring a ticket. We have the ticket available on our website also our Facebook page. You can also call the office and we will send one out to you.” said Murray.

Money from the fundraiser will go toward the various mentoring programs throughout West Central Illinois. The money will also help fund Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Central Illinois and the day to day operations.

“As a non profit for us, we are a small local a non profit. We don’t receive any state or federal funding so our doors are open strictly from grants, private donations and these fund raisers that we put on so that why these are so essential to us. We do our very best to keep operating to help serve the children across seven counties but we certainly need the help from our community to do that.” said Murray. “It certainly is tight, I don’t think we can get any tighter than we are. But again, we do our very best to keep everything in line and offer these programs for to the kids. We have wait lists for children to be enrolled, we have wait lists for the schools who have programs with us. If we have more funding we could certainly serve a lot more children”

Murray says anyone who could help volunteer to be a big brother or big sister or donate money goes a long way.

“We certainly do our best to stay open and keep these programs for these kids that we have,we have so many enrolled across seven counties. It’s difficult to be a non profit. We don’t get any state for federal funding, we certainly need the donations from the community and the support.” said Murray.
