Despite rumors that more than 100 jobs at the Jacksonville Blue Cross Blue Shield office could be affected by corporate changes, officials with the company say there’s nothing to worry about.

Multiple media reports have indicated Blue Cross is planning to outsource claims-processing functions in offices over the next several years in several other states, including states where the insurance company is run by the same company as in Illinois.

However, in an email to WLDS-WEAI News, BCBS Illinois spokesman Michael Deering said there are no plans to eliminate a large number of jobs in the Jacksonville facility, and that the company has no plans to close any Illinois customer call centers or service units like the one here.

He says, “As a large company, the size of our workforce fluctuates on a regular basis based on the needs of our customers and business priorities. Following a record year for membership growth, BCBSIL has posted 410 positions since January 1st, 2015.”
