Sixty-year-old John Adams has been ordered to serve 30 months of probation after pleading guilty in April to reckless homicide.
Adams was driving a truck that turned through a median turnaround on Interstate 57 north of Effingham. The truck, not completely off the roadway, was hit by a vehicle driven by 23-year-old Brianne Martin of Effingham. Martin was killed in the accident.
Adams was originally charged with aggravated DUI, according to authorities, but it couldn’t be proven that he was under the influence of cocaine at the time of the crash.
Adams will not be allowed to operate a semi-tractor trailer and must surrender his commercial driver’s license to the state. He was given credit for 206 days served in jail.
