Another round of musical chairs that is the Carrollton Police Department was played this week.

Carrollton aldermen accepted the resignation of police chief Mike McCartney during a special meeting Wednesday night. McCartney will take over as an investigator for the department, while Officer Terry Gross was appointed police chief.

McCartney took over for Kenny Kallal, who stepped down as chief after numerous complaints from residents about his handling of affairs. Alderwoman Susie Keller says McCartney did a fantastic job.

“He didn’t resign because he was having problems. We’re in a rebuilding stage, and we’re doing everything we can for the betterment of the department,” says Keller. “Mike really brought in a lot of good ideas in making some strides forward. He just wanted to go back to the road.”

Keller comments on Gross taking over as police chief.

“He’s ready and willing to get some community outreach going and all that. He’s a good officer and a good guy,” she says.

Keller, who is the chairwoman for the City Council police committee that was formed earlier this year, says the committee will continue to hold monthly meetings.
