A Carrollton man, arrested in March on predatory criminal sexual abuse charges, will be spending the next four years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Thirty-nine-year-old Elmer Keel Jr. was originally arrested for allegedly committing a sex act with someone under 13 years of age, a Class X Felony that carries a potential six to sixty years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Greene County State’s Attorney Caleb Briscoe catches us up to speed with the case since the initial investigation from Greene County law enforcement.

“We ended up filing three charges against him. Back in July, he entered a plea of guilty to one of those charges. We set it for an October 5th sentencing, where we had an agreed sentence of four years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.”
Briscoe feels the length of Keel Jr.’s sentence is “fair.”

“We look at somebody who obviously did a really bad thing to this minor. Under the circumstances, he has no criminal history. Hopefully they can give him some services while he is in custody. Hopefully this is something we can prevent from happening once he gets out of custody.”

Keel Jr. has been continuously held in custody since March 21st. Briscoe says Keel Jr. should be transported to the Illinois Department of Corrections sometime tomorrow.
