The Jacksonville city council last night unanimously backed the appointment of a new deputy police chief.

The council agreed with police chief Doug Thompson’s choice of Kyle Chumley to replace Rodney Cox as one of the two chief deputies, Matt Martin serves in the other post directing patrols. Chumley will direct investigations and technology.

Cox says Chumley is the best choice.

Chumley says he was not looking to move up.

Thompson says the transition is seemless.

The Jacksonville city council also approved the addition of a special use permit to a residential zoning for 1426 and 28 West Lafayette. Midwest Youth Services wants to use the property for temporary housing for homeless teens.

And, the council agreed to a contract for the Jacksonville fire department records management software.
