Jacksonville Congressman Darin LaHood is set to face a Democratic challenger come November.

Junius Rodriguez, a history professor at Eureka College, was nominated over the weekend by a Democratic committee, according to our reporting partners at WICS ABC Newschannel 20.

Rodriguez tells Channel 20 he considers himself a centrist who believes in the art of the possible and knows full well, the seat has been held by a Republican for a century.

“I do believe that with the circumstances, the unique circumstances that we’re now seeing in American politics, that this can be a district in play,” he says.

Darin LaHood, a Republican, tells Newschannel 20 he should be re-elected because he hasn’t missed a vote in Washington yet, and has made it back home every weekend.
