Construction plans on new South Jacksonville gazebo revealed

The South Jacksonville gazebo under construction in Godfrey Park has been torn down so a new one can be built.

During the October meeting at the beginning of the month, trustees agreed that the gazebo project needed to be finished as soon as possible.

Trustee Stacey Pinkerton took charge of the project and brought in several contractors to take a look at the gazebo.

“I gathered up contractors to see if they could help us out and get this done. We met at Godfrey Park and the contractors said it was an unsafe structure. None of them wanted to put their name on that building saying they finished it, because it was not done correctly. That is why we chose to take it down.”

Pinkerton says the gazebo had been up for about a month, but wasn’t completed due to a lack of volunteers. Pinkerton discusses the current plans for construction on the new gazebo, involving a member of the Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals.

“Billy Lieb has put together a blueprint so the gazebo can be put up properly. I do believe we will try to start this Saturday, weather permitting. It will take at last four to five weekends for this to be completed.”

Pinkerton says refreshments will be provided for annual volunteers who assist with the project.
