Panic broke out for around an hour at the Meredosia Bridge this morning.

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Department received a dispatch call at around 10 a.m. from the Coast Guard, advising them that three barges had become unsecured and were floating down the Illinois River.

According to Meredosia police officer Rich Pulling, the barges were floating towards the structure of the Meredosia Bridge.

Pulling informed WLDS/WEAI News that the Elco tug boat company quickly secured all three barges before causing any damage to the bridge.
