West Central Illinois’ Congressmen are sharing their thoughts on the election of Paul Ryan as the new Speaker of the House.

Both 13th District Representative Rodney Davis and 18th District Rep. Darin LaHood, Republicans, voted for Ryan to succeed John Boehner.

Davis, in a statement, said he believes in Ryan’s message of change and his ability to unite the House to tackle major issues. He says, “I look forward to working with Speaker Ryan to reduce our nation’s debt, fix our crumbling infrastructure, improve our education system and address many other issues.”

LaHood added, “I believe Paul Ryan is the fresh face the Republican Party has been in need of to press forward a common sense, conservative agenda I was elected to pursue…[I] feel that Mr. Ryan’s record on pro-growth economic policies and Midwestern values can put forth the leadership needed to be effective and transparent moving our conservative agenda ahead.”
