December Weather

Not only was there no White Christmas in Jacksonville last month, but there was little snow on any other day.

There were just traces of snow on the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 12th and nothing the rest of the month. Normal snowfall is somewhere between 3 and 3 and a half inches.

And, it was dry in December. The precipitation came to just under 2 inches at 1-point-9 inches. That’s over a half an inch less than normal.

All that is expected to change this weekend, with heavy snow forecast for much of the area Sunday.

The average temperature last month was a little over 35 degrees. That’s a full five degrees warmer than normal. That’s still colder than a year ago.

A typical day last month saw a high of 43 and a half and a low of 27. Both are well above long term averages.

Readings ranged from 64 on the 9th, to 12 on the 5th. But, no daily records. The mercury hit 50 or better on 12 of the 31 days. Lows at night fell below 20 only 7 times in December.
