A Jacksonville man who has made headlines for scuffling with the city police department is behind bars this morning.

Thirty-three-year-old Dennis Lancaster of the 1500 block of West State was booked at the Morgan County Jail at around 8:15 last night for two counts of resisting a peace officer, and three counts of aggravated battery.

Preliminary details from the Jacksonville Police Department indicate Lancaster kicked a paramedic at his residence after police requested the presence of emergency crews. Lieutenant Sean Walker couldn’t tell us this morning why police were initially called out.

Walker says Lancaster later kicked a police officer at Passavant Area Hospital. Lancaster also reportedly head-butted someone, but it’s not clear who.

The Jacksonville Police Department was named in a federal lawsuit after Lancaster alleged excessive force for an arrest for aggravated battery, resisting a peace officer and disorderly conduct in September 2009. A settlement was eventually reached.

Lancaster remains in custody this morning.
