The Meredosia-Chambersburg board of education has voted to close the school district’s elementary building.
The Jacksonville Journal-Courier reports the board adopted a resolution at its meeting last week to close the school and proceed with campus renovation, including upgrades to the high school.
It’s estimated that it will cost between $500,000 and $1.3 million to prepare the high school for additional students from the closing grade school. The city paper reports the school board adopted a resolution to consider issuing working cash fund bonds and to adopt a municipal adviser as it moves forward.
The board had failed to make a motion to close the building during a special meeting in April 2014.
