A mobile food pantry is coming to the Morgan County Fairgrounds thanks to Central Illinois Foodbank and the annual Crop Walk.

Krista Lisser with the Central Illinois Foodbank says this year’s mobile pantry is unique from others.

“One thing that’s a little bit different about this mobile pantry opposed to some of our other ones is it’s actually a drive-thru mobile pantry, so you won’t be getting out and waiting in a line, it will be through your vehicle,” says Lisser.

In Morgan County and the rest of Central Illinois, the need for food continues to grow, according to Lisser.

“We work with several agencies throughout Morgan County during the year to make sure that we have a place and a sponsor to bring our mobile pantry to help those in need. What we do know is that nearly five-thousand people in Morgan County, don’t know where there next meal is coming from,” Lisser explains.

Lisser says having a mobile food pantry in conjunction with the Crop Walk is starting to become an annual event.

Central Illinois Foodbank’s mobile pantries bring between 10-thousand and 12-thousand pounds of food. Lisser says around sixty-percent of that food will be fresh produce.

The mobile food pantry will be at the Morgan County Fairgrounds, located at 110 South Westgate in Jacksonville, on Thursday, starting around 6 p.m.
