It took a few days, but Passavant Area Hospital officially delivered its first newborn of 2016.

Emmet Eugene Brown, weighing eight pounds, six ounces and measuring 21 inches long, arrived Monday morning at 3:19 a.m.

Emmet is the second baby between parents Haley and Richard Brown of Jacksonville.

Haley and Richard were stunned when they found out Emmet was the first baby delivered at Passavant this year.

“Definitely a surprise as he was born on the fourth. We were really surprised by it,” says Richard.

Reporter: “Were you expecting to have it around this time?”

“He is actually six days overdue,” noted Haley.

Both parents complemented the nurses, doctors and staff of Passavant for doing a fantastic job with the delivery.

In recognition of being the first newborn of the year, Passavant presented the family with a gift basket and baby items.
