A van caught fire in the parking lot of a Jacksonville apartment complex this afternoon.
It happened at the Eastlawn Apartments in the 800 block of Illinois at around 12:15 p.m. Jacksonville firefighters arrived to find the the 2011 Dodge Caravan fully engulfed in flames.
Jacksonville Fire Captain Kershaw says the vehicle was owned by Ashley Bauser of Jacksonville. Kershaw says she was inside an apartment when her son told her the vehice was on fire.
Kershaw says it’s unclear what caused the van to catch fire. It was completely destroyed, and a 2001 Chevy Prism parked next to it suffered some heat damage.
Firefighters were able to get the blaze out fairly quickly, but spent additional time drying out the parking lot after fuel had leaked from the van.
No one was ordered to evacuate from the apartment complex. There were no injuries.
Fire crews were on scene for about 40 minutes.
