Morgan County Fair Board officials got a pleasant surprise recently at a food drive collection.

Board member Marty Marr says the fair board decided to do a drive this year to support a need in the community for the Jacksonville Food Center. The drive took place at the County Market on West Morton, with volunteers collecting canned goods and cash donations.

What happened next, Marr says, is a Christmas miracle.

“All of a sudden, this lady walked up and said, ‘I’ll be back in a few minutes,’ and came back and told us at that time that she had been very fortunate and blessed and just wanted to find a way to give back to the community, so she stuck $2,000 in our hands,” says Marr.

“Just a great donation. I don’t know who this person was, she just didn’t want any notoriety, she just left. I think that’s a very humble and great thing that she did. We’re very grateful for her doing that, and helping support this effort for us.”

Marr says the fair board has talked about holding a similar donation drive in the future while the Morgan County Fair is happening in the future.
