Residents in the Greene County seat of Carrollton are mourning the death of their former mayor.

Fifty-five-year-old W. David Stendeback died last Monday at his home. Stendeback took a leave of absence in March. He had been battling cancer. Stendeback served two terms as mayor, having been recently re-elected.

A post on the City of Carrollton’s Facebook page says the city “and all of its employees would like to extend its deepest condolences to the family of Mayor Stendeback in his passing.”

In addition to his role as mayor, Stendeback’s obituary notes he was instrumental in bringing cell phone mobility to Greene County as one of the first agents for U.S. Cellular.

Stendeback is survived by his wife and three children, and two grandchildren. A funeral mass was held last Tuesday.
