James Bruce Campbell, of Hillsboro, was 72 when he passed away last Monday. He was the president of Campbell Publications, which includes the Greene Prairie Press, Scott County times and several other publications.
Campbell added the newspapers in Scott and Greene Counties as part of an expansion plan in the 1990s, and the Carrollton Gazette-Patriot was purchased and merged with the Prairie Press in 2007, according to obituary information posted on the newspaper websites.
Campbell was inducted into the Journalism Hall of Fame at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
A private burial service is being held in St. Louis.
