Land of Lincoln Goodwill Industries is partnering with computer technology giant Dell to create a new recycling program.

Dell Reconnect will allow people to take old computer equipment to Goodwill stores, such as the one in Jacksonville on West Morton. According to a press release, Goodwill employees will inspect the computers to determine if they can be reused, and eventually resold in a Goodwill store.

Parts that can’t be reused will be broken down securely and recycled separately before being reprocessed to make new products.

Consumers are reminded to remove personal data from hard drives or other storage media before donating.

Goodwill officials say the new program will help prevent used electronics from going into landfills and provide families affordable computer product purchase options.
