A Roodhouse woman is facing prosecution from the Illinois Attorney General’s Office for allegedly defrauding the state out of nearly $28,000.

Forty-year-old Misty Atwood was booked at the Greene County Jail on Thursday on a Greene County warrant for vendor fraud and theft.

Greene County Sheriff Rob McMillen says Atwood was hired through the state to perform healthcare assistance to homebound people, and allegedly manipulated paperwork, collecting money but not providing services.

Greene County State’s Attorney Caleb Briscoe says the Medicaid Fraud Division of the Attorney General filed the felony charges and is handling the case. Atwood is due in court in Carrollton on Friday. We left a message with that office Thursday afternoon, and it wasn’t immediately returned.

Atwood remains in custody.
