Greenfield man involved in high speed chase behind bars after month-long manhunt

The Greene County man who escaped police in September after a high speed chase has been apprehended.

Fifty-one-year-old William Orr was arrested on Saturday in Springfield by the Springfield Police Department. The charges against Orr include criminal trespass to property, unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated assault.

Orr was also arrested on a Greene County warrant for violating the sex offender registration act, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude police and felony driving while revoked.

Back on September 6th, deputies from the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office went to the residence of Orr in Greenfield to interview him about an ongoing investigation.

Orr allegedly fled the scene in a pickup truck and led deputies in a pursuit north bound of of Greenfield on State Route 267.

At some point in the chase, Orr allegedly toss a firearm out of the window of the truck.

Orr’s truck was discovered abandoned in a field north of the East Roodhouse Blacktop.

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Department, White Hall Police Department, Roodhouse Police Department, Jacksonville Police Department and Illinois State Police also assisted in the manhunt and investigation of Orr.

Orr remains in custody in the Greene County Jail on $75,000 bail.
