A Greene County meat business has re-opened after being shut down by the state this past summer.
Parks Locker Service in Greenfield began taking orders again on November 3rd, according to its Facebook page. The food processing plant had its license revoked in July by the Illinois Department of Agriculture after inspectors found 136 violations in the facility from March 24th to June 17th.
The state said the violations were for unsanitary conditions that endanger public safety.
The Jacksonville Journal-Courier reports Parks Locker no longer has on-site slaughtering and therefore no longer falls under the jurisdiction of the state department. Instead, it will be overseen by the Greene County Health Department as a retail operation, according to state officials.
A petition fighting the USDA decision received several hundred signatures.
