A group of Scott County residents are working to preserve an old school building.

Alsey resident Cindy Ryan, who has spearheaded various other fundraisers in the past, called into “What’s On Your Mind?” last Friday to mention a new fundraiser to save the grade school in Alsey.

The event is an old-timers basketball game between Alsey and Manchester happening this Saturday at the school gym.

According to a recent article in a Scott County newspaper, Alsey Grade School closed in 1987. Ryan says the Village of Alsey purchased the grade school, but the upkeep hasn’t been great.

“A bunch of alumni have decided it is time to take care of our building. There isn’t a whole lot around here so we want to save what we can. We have raised $5,000 and that has helped put on a roof and replace some furnaces. Right now we are looking to get a new floorboard paid for.”

The game is at 1 p.m.
