According to the latest USDA crop report, fields are ready for rain but the dry weather has given producers a chance to get the most crops out of the ground.
Crop Statistician Mark Schleusener has more.
“Corn harvest is now 93 percent complete across the state. That compares to 57 percent last year at this time and 79 percent for the five year average. The northwestern district of Illinois is only 79 percent harvested, but all other parts of the state are above 90 percent finished with corn harvest.”
Ninety-three percent of soybeans have been harvested.
The average statewide topsoil moisture declined to 14 percent very short, 45 percent short, 38 percent adequate and three percent surplus.
