Illinois College head football coach Garrett Campbell has resigned after eight years.

According to a press release from IC, Campbell has accepted a position at Fullerton College in his native California.

Long-time associate head coach Ray DeFrisco will be the new Illinois College head coach.

Campbell led IC to an overall record of 51-30 and the program’s first trip to the NCAA Division III playoffs. A total of 78 student-athletes were named First Team, Second Team or honorable mention All-Midwest Conference under Campbell’s tenure.

In a statement, Campbell said it was a difficult decision, but the opportunity for him to return to the college where he played and started his coaching career was the deciding factor in his decision to step down at IC.
