The superintendent of the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired will take over as interim superintendent at the Illinois School for the Deaf.

Governor Bruce Rauner’s office and the Department of Human Services made that announcement yesterday afternoon regarding Serena Preston. She’ll serve as top administrator at both schools while the state conducts an “extensive search” to permanently fill the position.

Dr. Janice Smith-Warshaw left her post as ISD superintendent at the end of June.

Preston has served as ISVI superintendent since 2012. The Jacksonville native has worked at the school in several capacities for almost 18 years.
