An independent film, which debuted in Central Illinois last week, stars a Jacksonville native and St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright.
Jackie Manker says the majority of the filming for Proximity took place in Centralia and the reviews she has received have been “fantastic”.
Manker says the film questions if two people can be at the same place in life, even though society has put them worlds apart.
Manker says her love of acting started while attending Jacksonville High School.
“I had a small role in Oklahoma, then during my senior year I was cast as the lead role for Annie. I then went to Illinois College, where I did a lot of theater. Since then I have been dabbling in acting, in addition to my day job. Then Proximity came along and it kept me busy.”
As for Wainright, Manker says he made the transition from the pitching mound to the big screen with ease.
“I was just floored by how poised he was and how hilarious he was. He really looked like he knew what he was doing. I could easily see him having a future in the acting industry, if for some reason the baseball thing doesn’t work out for him.”
Proximity will premiere in Bellvile on January 9th at the Lincoln Theatre.
Jacksonville Mayor Andy Ezard announced on social media that he would like to see the film come to a Jacksonville theatre in the near future.
