A Jacksonville man made the trip to Arizona to experience the biggest sporting event of the year, Super Bowl XLIX.
While Kevin Eckhoff was able to grab a ticket to the NFL Pro Bowl on January 25, the high demand for Super Bowl tickets forced him and his fiancée to watch the big game in a nearby bar.
Eckhoff says he witnessed a ticket seller turn down $14,000 for tickets in the “nosebleed section” at University of Phoenix Stadium.
Eckhoff described the atmosphere surrounding the Super Bowl, which pitted the New England Patriots against the defending champion Seattle Seahawks.
“Everything going on in the city was all about the Super Bowl, with special events and activities. We had a good time and obviously it was a lot warmer there than in Jacksonville,” says Eckhoff.
“I think everybody was upbeat and had a good time. It was an exciting time, security was great and I always felt safe, traffic was great and it was a good experience to be there.”
New England was able to rally from behind in the fourth quarter and came away with an interception at the goal line to defeat Seattle 28-24.
Eckhoff works as a full-time employee at Passavant Area Hospital and part-time WLDS announcer.
