A Jacksonville organization is holding a fundraiser this weekend to help provide local students with college scholarships.

Jacksonville Promise board member Lynne Sheaff says the event on Friday at Hamilton’s will be the first fundraiser for the organization, which has been running for about four years.

“And finally we are at the point where we can go public with it. We have raised about $25,000 which goes towards students who go to school in Jacksonville and will attend college in Jacksonville.”

Sheaff listed several items up for grabs in the Jacksonville Promise auction.

“There is going to be hand made jewelry, an East Indian dinner, a week at a cottage in the Indiana dunes and a flight on a private airline.”

Sheaff says the money raised will make things easier for those with aspirations of high education.

“A lot of young people don’t go to college because they can’t afford it financially. We hope this will allow them to get started on a good career, they will stay in the community and this will serve as an economic engine itself.”

Tickets for the event are $50 and can be purchased by emailing jacksonvillepromise@gmail.com.

The first round of scholarships from Jacksonville Promise will be announced July 1st.
