One Jacksonville resident is glad she stopped at the local JP Convenience store on Tuesday.

What likely would’ve been just another Tuesday for Brooke Johnson turned into a day she’ll never forget. Using a nickel to scratch off her “Slingo Gold” lottery ticket, her simple $3 purchase suddenly turned into a $50,000 prize.

After receiving her $50,000 prize from the Illinois Lottery Center in Springfield, Johnson said in a statement, “I’m so happy I won the lottery,” and that she “plans to put this money in the bank for now.”

The retailer, JP Convenience, located at 619 North Prairie, received a bonus of $500, or one percent of the prize amount, for selling the winning ticket.

The Illinois Lottery has contributed more than $19 billion to Illinois’ Common School Fund assisting K-12 public schools since its establishment in 1974.
