People from all backgrounds will celebrate German heritage at the seventh annual Oktoberfest on Saturday at the Morgan County Fairgrounds.

The Jacksonville Rotary Club is putting on the fundraising event that features German-themed food, drinks, and games throughout the day. Local Rotarian Allen Stare said the club decided to do something different with the food selection this year.

“We decided to go with some pros. We talked to Twyford’s BBQ here in town. Working with our Oktoberfest Committee, they created a special German-themed menu and Twyford will take over the actual preparation of the German menu. It’s going to include brats on a pretzel bun with brown mustard and sauerkraut.”

The gates open at 12:00 p.m. and the ceremonial tapping of the keg is at 1:00 p.m.

Among the highly-anticipated activities at Oktoberfest each year is the Weiner Dog races. Stare said the start time for the races is moved back to 1:30 p.m. this year.

Musical entertainment starts with “Heidelberg” on the main stage at 1:00 p.m. That will be followed by the band “Unhandsome Devils” performing from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
