According to Sangamon County Undersheriff Jack Campbell, deputies were called to a home on Pleasant Valley Road in Sangamon County east of Waverly on a child abduction call last night around 6 p.m.

Deputies learned the mother of a three-year-old child, 26-year-old Kayla Justice of Jacksonville, came to the residence and took the child without permission from the caretaker.

Justice allegedly did not have visitation rights.

Deputies learned Justice may be in the Jacksonville area and requested the city police department to check possible addresses for the mother’s vehicle. Justice was located in the 600 block of Jordan, according to Campbell, at around 7:15 last night. She was taken into custody and transported back to the Sangamon County Jail.

Justice faces one count of child abduction and one count of kidnapping.

Campbell says the child was unharmed and returned to the custody of her legal guardian, her maternal grandmother.
