A well-known Illinois College alumnus assumes an important state role this week.

Governor Bruce Rauner has appointed Jim Bruner to the board of trustees for the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency.

Bruner is the President of United Contractors Midwest, an asphalt paving company founded in 2001. Bruner was previously president of Winchester-based Illinois Valley Paving, where he worked for over three decades.

A press release from the governor’s office also notes several laborer and contractor boards Bruner has served, including as a two-term president of the Associated General Contractors of Illinois.

Bruner graduated from Illinois College in 1966. He provided the primary funding for what would become the IC men’s basketball team home gymnasium, the Bruner Fitness and Recreation Center.
